Auto Shazam on iPad

What is Auto Shazam?

Auto Shazam is a fantastic feature available on iOS devices. Discover new songs around you without even opening Shazam. Soundtrack your summer without even touching the screen. The possibilities are endless.

How do I control Auto Shazam?

There are two ways to turn Auto Shazam on:

Long press the Shazam button in the Home Screen. A pop up will appear asking you to confirm whether you want to switch Auto Shazam on. Once confirmed, the feature will be turned on.

Go to the Settings via the My Shazam page, where you will see an option to toggle Auto Shazam on and off.

You'll know when Auto Shazam is switched on because a red bar will appear at the top of the screen until it's turned off.

Does the red bar affect my device's battery?

Auto Shazam has been optimized to be as efficient as possible. It will automatically switch off when the battery drops to 20% and the user will be notified.

If left on, Auto Shazam will automatically switch off after about 6 hours.

Does Auto Shazam use a lot of data?

It really depends on how much music is detected around you, and how many Shazams are made. Data consumption per Shazam is very small as the audio is recorded at a very low bit-rate. If you're concerned about this, we would advise you only use Auto Shazam with a WiFi connection.

What happens to discoveries made using Auto Shazam?

Matches found using Auto Shazam will be stored in a separate section in My Shazam, grouped together by date.

I have a Shazam account. Are Auto-Shazams automatically saved at

Nope. We know that Auto-Shazam might pick up some songs you're not too keen on, so they'll only be saved with your regular tags if you press the '+' icon on the track page and select 'Add to My Shazam'.

Is Shazam recording my conversations?

Absolutely not. Once Shazam detects audio it will create a digital "fingerprint" and will try to match that fingerprint with the music collection in our database. Shazam never saves or stores what it hears.
